1971 McLaren M8E/F

McLaren began working with manufacturer Trojan, Ltd. to build versions of its racing cars for sale to customers in 1964. Trojan built the M8F/P based on the factory-built M8Fs raced by Denny Hulme and Peter Revson during the 1971 Can-Am season. The M8E/F in the Museum’s collection combines aspects of both the M8E and the M8F/P. Originally built as an M8E, it remained in this configuration until 2016, the year it was restored by Canepa Motorsports and fitted with a new M8F body. After its restoration, the vehicle gained the split designation of “M8E/F.” In its modified form, it provides a snapshot of McLaren’s 1971 Can-Am season, representing the marque’s dominance as a racing team and its role as a racing car manufacturer and supplier.
